We continued to spend most evenings at the pool last week….it’s so convenient to just stick around for a few hours after swim team practice and let the kids wear themselves out. However, now that school is officially out for summer, we’ll probably spend afternoons at the pool and I’ll get back into a cooking routine. The end of the school year is so crazy that I just didn’t get around to doing much meal planning or grocery shopping. I snapped the picture below during adult swim one night last week. Our pool has the sweetest lifeguards and this particular gentleman made Emery’s and Bodie’s night when he let them “help” add the saline to the pool. It’s the little things. Both my kids received fun awards from their classmates at their award ceremonies this week. Emery was given the “style” award (which baffles me as we seldom see eye to eye on her fashion choices) while Bodie was voted “most likely to be smiling.” I didn’t embarrass Emery by taking pictures, but I did manage to capture this sweet moment with Bodie and his precious teacher. We are going to miss Mrs. Wyatt and Miss Heinz next year. Both kiddos were blessed with amazing teachers.
I was still driving my friend’s Wrangler the last two days of school, which the kids thought was the coolest mode of transportation ever. They loved driving to school with the top down and doors off.
Without homework to keep her busy, Emery has been coming up with all sorts of shenanigans to occupy her time. She decided to give candle making a try after seeing a candle in a mug at a store. I must have rocks for brains because I ordered a huge bag of soy wax flakes, some wicks and oils and let her go nuts with it. The end result is pretty cute, if I do say so myself, although the fragrance is not super strong. Actually, it’s not even detectable. We followed instructions from a Pinterest pin, so I’m not sure where we went wrong. Everyone knows Pinterest is foolproof! Regardless of scent, it’s always nice to have a candle flickering on my desk.
Hunter must hear his humans give Alexa commands all day, so he’s decided to give it a shot. Here he is asking Alexa to give him treats.
Our swim team had its second meet of the season last night and it was one of the most fun meets I can recall. The weather was gorgeous and good sportsmanship was plentiful. I was a timer for the first half and many of the races were close. Emery is on a fantastic relay team. I am blown away by the quality of the swimming in her age group. She had a great meet. Bodie also swam really well and didn’t bat an eye when I told him was swimming long free, which is something he dreaded last year.
The nice weather didn’t make an appearance today. We woke up to heavy rain and the day ended with a pretty strong storm. Emery, Bodie and I met up with friends to see “Aladdin” and then headed to Dave and Buster’s for some arcade fun. I enjoyed the movie and so did the kids, but the original animated version is so near and dear to my heart. I just adore that movie.
We ended our busy afternoon of indoor fun with haircuts. Emery got a much needed trim while Bodie requested a “Gavin Magnus” ‘do.
Here’s a summer PSA for you: WEAR SUNSCREEN. I am paying the price for being a complete idiot as a teenager. Let me tell you, this is not fun. Thankfully, the results of the biopsy are just “irregular” and this big incision resulted in clear margins. I know it could be a lot worse. But, I still wish I had been more careful in my younger days. Now I’m a freckled mess with scars!
Have a great weekend!
