University of Kentucky Tour

Emery and I took a trip to charming Lexington, KY, last week to tour the University of Kentucky. This is a school that we do not have any ties to, but Emery heard from a number of friends that it’s a great experience, so she added it to her list of applications. I am happy to report that we left Lexington VERY impressed.

We arrived Thursday night and checked into the downtown Hilton. This hotel is conveniently located near campus and Rupp Arena. Numerous restaurants and coffee shops are within walking distance. The staff was lovely and the lobby area is great. It’s a wonderful option for anything UK related.

Our tour was Friday morning, so we were up bright and early to head to the UK visitors center. Our tour, from start to finish, was about two hours and very informative. Much like our tour at the University of South Carolina, we started in a conference type room where we sat through an information session (tuition, deadlines, meal plans, room style, parking, etc.) complete with slides and a video. Then we were split into smaller groups for the walking portion of the visit. Each group had two guides. I can’t speak for the other groups, but our guides were fabulous. Very fun, smart and likable.

I’ve learned something during our college tours: the amount of time Emery wants to spend in the book store is directly proportional to where the school ranks on her list. More time = highly likely to attend. Let’s just say we spent a long time in the UK store and she even picked out some items for her brother. That’s a first.

UK Shopping

I love Queen of Sparkles, so discovering QOS in the book store was very exciting. Also exciting? Learning this tidbit:

What more could a girl want in a university? I kid, I kid. The incredible opportunities, hospitable students and faculty, gorgeous scenery and proximity to downtown Lexington make a very strong argument for UK. Go Cats!
