Travel Tuesday(a day late): Hotel Xcaret

Happy Travel Tuesday! We spent our Thanksgiving break (five nights) at Hotel Xcaret in Mexico and I’ve got lots to share with you all. Before I get into the nitty gritty, I need to emphasize that this is one of the most beautiful resorts I’ve ever visited.

Hotel Xcaret

We had a lovely trip and I’d definitely recommend this resort for families and groups. I was not familiar with Hotel Xcaret Mexico until my MIL suggested it for our trip. We’re all thrilled she booked it! Here’s a snippet from the web site:

HOTEL XCARET MÉXICO

In December 2017, Hotel Xcaret México opened its doors to offer the best of Mexico included. It was born as a tribute to Mayan culture and to our country, its artisans, its Mexican gastronomy, its living wealth and its cultural heritage.
We are characterized by our hospitality and the excellence in our service, which have given us several recognitions, among them a 5 Diamond certification. Each achievement is a commitment to Mexico and to you. We invite you to know México through our love for it.

If you want a big sandy beach, this is likely not the place for you. The resort is situated on the Caribbean, but the beach is rocky. However, if you like beautiful water with a lot of activity then this is definitely your scene. Not only is the resort home to inlets and cliffs, but you also get access to multiple parks with your stay. We enjoyed rafting, zip lines, an intense ropes course, a mud bath and ATV rides during our visit…and we barely scratched the surface. Unfortunately, I have hardly any photos because I couldn’t bring my phone along on most of these activities. But back to having fun at the resort….

Hammocks, caves and bars are plentiful. What more could you want?

The staff is wonderful and the rooms are spotless and comfortable.

We tried many of the restaurants. Las Playas is definitely my favorite. It’s right on the beach and has a many options that were not seafood. I struggled with some of the other restaurants because they feature mainly seafood and I am just not a fan. I wish I liked it, but I just don’t. I’ve tried and tried. But my family likes fish, so they were happy. My other favorite is the Brazilian steakhouse, Las Cuevas. Most of the restaurants do not take reservations, but we didn’t have many issues getting a table in a timely manner.

Although we had an amazing vacation and I would not hesitate to go back, I have a few things I want to mention in the spirit of being fully transparent. First, upon checking in, we learned that our rooms were not together. My MIL repeatedly requested this and paid for a certain type of room. She was guaranteed that her wishes (and what she paid for, I might add), would be honored. That was not the case. The front desk staff was not super accommodating in getting us our correct rooms. All of the rooms are great, so we quickly moved on, but worth noting. Apparently your reservation is merely a suggestion.

Once we made our way to our new rooms, we discovered that two of them had been freshly painted. As in maybe an hour before we checked in. The paint fumes in one of the rooms were so overwhelming that we could not stay there. So, changed rooms again. We did not let this dampen our spirits, but I want to be totally honest should you book this resort.

Lastly, and this is me being high maintenance, the water pressure in my room was abysmal. The other three rooms in our group were fine, but the room I shared with my family definitely had a water issue. The first thing I did when I got home Sunday was take a REAL shower.

Every resort has a few kinks and the positives majorly outweigh the negatives at Hotel Xcaret. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
