Happy Travel Tuesday! This post isn’t anything ground breaking seeing as how we take a family trip to Steamboat every year, but our recent visit was different in that we made it an adults only trip. Ben and I managed to coordinate our schedules with several good friends who no longer live in Greenville and planned a reunion in the Rockies. All I can say is that ski trips without children are A LOT more relaxing. However, leaving my kids at home, even with my parents taking care of them, is a major source of anxiety for me. I was a wreck for days prior to the trip, but once we got on that plane to CO, I was fine.
Day one of our trip was spent getting situated at One Steamboat Place and picking out rental gear for those who needed it. We ate dinner at The Truffle Pig that first night, which is always delicious and super convenient because it’s located in the same building as One Steamboat Place. Jet lag is real and we were all in bed early so that we could hit the slopes at rope drop.
Bluebird Day
The conditions were amazing, thanks to a winter storm that had just blown through. We were left with lots of sunshine and gorgeous blue skies. The temperatures were in the 20’s, which is very pleasant for skiing.
We called it a day kind of early so we could hit the hot tubs and be showered and ready for the Super Bowl. Coverage begins way earlier out west than we’re used to, but we all agreed it was nice to not have to stay up super late to see the end of the game and the trophy presentation. We ordered pizza from Brooklyn’s and it was delicious. None of us really had a dog in the fight, so we were watching mainly for the commercials. I have to admit, I thought the commercials were AWFUL. Not a funny one in the lot. I understand that our country is in need of healing and compassion, but I was really hoping to laugh and be distracted for a few hours. Maybe next year.
Day two was more of the same….plenty of sun and snow! Lunch was enjoyed slope side at T Bar. T Bar doesn’t look like much, but the food is incredible and the beer selection is top notch. You can’t beat it on a sunny day. We ate dinner at the famous Cafe Diva, which is always a success. If you’re ever in Steamboat, Cafe Diva is not to be missed. But book early!
T Bar and Cafe Diva
Our final day on the mountain consisted of fresh snow! And lots of it. Steamboat was in such dire need of snow when we were out there for New Years that this was such a treat. We skied hard all morning and then the ladies in the group headed to the spa for much needed massages. Our final dinner was at E3 Chophouse, which may sound familiar to you Nashville folks. The Steamboat location, just like the Nashville operation, is owned by Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and baseball player Adam LaRoche. Pretty cool. And the food is delicious.
Last Day
It’s not often that Ben and I take a trip without the kiddos because we (and I really mean “I”) feel guilty leaving them. But, it sure is good for a marriage to have a few days to really focus on each other. I need to give my parents a few months to recover before I ask them to watch Emery and Bodie again, but I hope another kid free trip is in our near future.
