Travel Tuesday: Notre Dame vs. Ohio State

My family (parents, sister, niece, nephew, Emery, Bodie) and I made our annual trek to South Bend last weekend to watch our beloved Irish. The only game that we could all make work with our schedules happened to be the Ohio State game. We knew the atmosphere would be electric, but we also knew we were likely to lose.

Perhaps the most thrilling part of the weekend for Emery and Kelsey was when we walked into the Hammes bookstore Friday evening and discovered that Notre Dame has a collaboration with Lululemon. Most expensive trip to the bookstore EVER.

After giving the bookstore all my money, we headed to Meijer to get poster boards and markers. ESPN’s Game Day was broadcast from campus Saturday morning and we wanted to be ready!

Game Day was a lot of fun. Notre Dame students and fans made some really funny posters. The weather was picture perfect and we were treated to a surprise flyover.

Game Day

We grabbed lunch at LaFortune student center after Game Day and then headed back to our rental house to watch a few other games and relax before returning to campus for tailgating and kickoff. We rented our house through Rent Like A Champion and we were very pleased. The house was immaculate and very comfortable. Fun fact: RLAC was founded by some of my Notre Dame classmates and was featured on Shark Tank! It’s a brilliant concept with rentals in over twenty college towns, not just South Bend. I encourage you to check them out if a college game is in your future. Houses like the one we rented are ideal for families or groups. Try it here: https://rentlikeachampion.com/

The game was so intense that I only managed to snap one picture. We all know the ending…I’m trying not to dwell on it. Overall I am happy with how the Irish played. I honestly didn’t think the game would be decided by only three points. Sure, the Irish made some mistakes at the end, but the game definitely lived up to the hype.

We spent Sunday morning licking our wounds at Rohr’s in The Morris Inn for brunch. I love Rohr’s. It’s one of my favorite spots on the entire campus. The people watching is always fun and the lobby of the hotel is the epitome of cozy elegance. We always pop in here for a drink on Fridays and Saturdays when we’re in town, but this was our first time visiting for brunch. It was delicious. We all loved what we ordered. Following brunch we wandered around campus for a bit to take in more of the unbelievable weather and then stopped by the law school to snap a picture under the arch. My sister brought her fancy camera just for this one picture, per my parents’ request. Worth it.

Our flight to Greenville from Atlanta was super delayed, twice, and we didn’t get home until after 2:00 Monday morning. Needless to say, we were exhausted. Despite the loss and the long travel day, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Our weekend at Notre Dame is always the best of the year.
