Last weekend was truly magical. Despite attending probably fifty games at Notre Dame Stadium during my lifetime, I’ve never experienced a snowy football game. Sure, there’s been the occasional flurry during late November games, but never anything of any significance. I guess if you spend enough time in South Bend, IN, you’re eventually going to get to watch a Snow Bowl.
Although we were FREEZING, last weekend was the most memorable time I’ve spent on campus with my children. They were in heaven. We dressed as though we were going skiing and fared pretty well. Our hands and feet were frozen by the end of the game, but overall we were dressed appropriately.
On top of the gorgeous scenery, Notre Dame dominated Boston College with a 44-0 victory. What more can one ask for?
We were greeted by a winter wonderland upon our arrival Friday evening, with no idea of what was to come!
Friday Night on Campus

We snapped these photos on our way to the men’s basketball game. They won with a buzzer beater. Quite exciting. In case you’re wondering who my other child is in the photos, Bodie’s buddy joined us for the trip. He is such a fun kid and loves “Rudy.” We were all so excited to share this adventure with him.
Saturday brought even colder temps and warnings of an impending storm. Honestly, I didn’t take the warning very seriously. Like I mentioned above, major snow before Thanksgiving is rare at Notre Dame!

We had to hit up all of our favorite spots and show Matthew campus before kickoff. Every view was a picture perfect postcard. We started with the most iconic spot: The golden dome, which serves as the administration building.

We headed to Basilica of the Sacred Heart and Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes after the dome. I’ll never tire of these views.

We made our way into the game and, although very cold and gray, no snow was falling…until halftime. Heavens to Betsy, I’ve never seen anything like it! Friends were sending photos of what the game looked like on television. Insanity! The atmosphere was electric and the players, cheerleaders, band and Irish Guard were on fire. The best game EVER!
Snowy Game

I found the photos below on the Notre Dame Facebook page and had to share here. I’ll never be able to describe the energy of the Snow Bowl, but these photos do a pretty good job.

I know I’m biased, but Notre Dame in the snow is breathtaking.
We headed home Sunday and are busy getting ready for turkey and trimmings with this same crew. I couldn’t be more excited! We always have a blast.
Side note: we always stay at the Aloft hotel in South Bend. It’s close, convenient and reliable. Also, the breakfast offerings are quick and easy, which is great for kids and game days.
