Travel Tuesday: Montage Palmetto Bluff

We traveled to the Carolina coast for spring break and stayed at the Montage Palmetto Bluff resort with several other families.  This post is very photo heavy, so I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.  As you can see, the resort is gorgeous and we had a wonderful time.  We’ll definitely be back.  IMG_1278IMG_7163We booked a sitter two of the evenings so we could enjoy some adult dinners.  We had the same sitter both nights and the kids all loved her.  Everything is so easily accessible and safe on the property that one sitter could manage to take all five kids for a bike ride,  to the pizza restaurant, to outdoor movie night and to the fire pit for s’mores.  Not gonna lie, I think I enjoyed the s’mores even more than the kids.  IMG_7206IMG_7208IMG_7204We spent our days on the water or at the pool.  The pool was heated with a bar and plenty of cabanas, which was perfect for our crew.  Also, it was a super quick bike ride from our cottages.  Almost everything at Palmetto Bluff is just a bike ride away, except for the stables and archery.  Thankfully, PB offers a shuttle to drive you out to those facilities.  Emery and I rented SUPs one morning with other mother/daughter duo on the trip.  Every time I stand up paddle board I fall more in love with the sport.  The guys rented kayaks and paddled the lagoon during this time.  Another day, we chartered a boat for some tubing and dolphin spotting.  I thought the inter coastal waters were too chilly for tubing/swimming, but the kids didn’t seem to mind.  IMG_7250IMG_7254IMG_7248IMG_7237IMG_7232IMG_7226IMG_1255I wish we could just hop on our bikes and pedal to breakfast every day!  I enjoyed cruising behind Bodie and taking in the scenery.  The houses on the island are all splendid.  Choosing a favorite would be impossible.  In addition to biking and water sports, Palmetto Bluff has amazing tree houses scattered around the property, which is 22,000 acres.  One of the tree houses is five stories tall!  I failed to get any pool or tree house pictures because we were too busy having fun, so check out the web site if you’d like to see those.  www.montagehotels.com/palmettobluffIMG_7213Spanish moss is breathtaking.IMG_7215Lots of alligators in the lagoon that winds its way through Palmetto Bluff, which the kids thought was super cool.  We also saw some bald eagles!  The kids can earn merit badges for spotting animals and trying different activities.  The merit badges are really nice pins that you can mount on a piece of cardboard given to you at check in.  The kids also got to pick out a stuffed animal at check in.  The choices are all relevant to the low country (gator, squirrel, dolphin, deer, fox, etc.), which made for a fun surprise for the little ones in our group.  I truly think Palmetto Bluff is the most kid friendly resort I’ve ever visited.  It’s also very luxurious, so #winning.

Speaking of animals, Palmetto Bluff has three canine ambassadors that hang out in the lobby every afternoon at 3:00 to greet the kids (and adults–I made a beeline to the lobby each day!) and enjoy a cool treat (lemonade and cookies).  The canine ambassadors are all English labs.  I remembered to take my phone one of the afternoons and snapped a quick picture of the boys loving on May.  The other labs, Cooper and River, round out the color scheme.  Cooper is chocolate and River is yellow.  They’re all super adorable and friendly.IMG_7256Yet another activity the kids and adults thoroughly enjoyed was archery.  The gents also did a clay pigeon shooting session, which they all thought was very cool and not something they get to do very often.IMG_7259IMG_7260IMG_7263IMG_7265IMG_7266One evening we charted the 106 year old commuter yacht owned by Palmetto Bluff.  Her name is Grace and she’s a beauty.  The boat was stocked with appetizers and wine (soft drinks for the kids) and we were treated to fabulous weather and scenery.  This resort is definitely on the expensive side, the experiences are second to none.  We didn’t even get around to horseback riding!  I guess we’ll have to do that when we return.F16A0DAE-CD58-4005-B582-9DA7018965D9The drive from Greenville to Bluffton is just under four hours.  I spent a good chunk of my time as a passenger reading The Witch Elm by Tana French.  I have to admit that this book took me a hot minute to get into because the jargon was tricky to decipher at first.  The book is set in Dublin.  However, I got the hang of it and now I can’t put the book down!  I’m hoping to finish it this week.  I truly have NO idea how this mystery will end.  57694489350__355C5A1E-FD0E-45E8-837B-397B4EA24AA5Have a great week!
