Travel Tuesday: Kiawah with my Dad and Sister

Last weekend my dad and sister drove down from Atlanta to spend a few days in Kiawah with me.  Oh my goodness…it was delightful.  I arrived Friday evening and immediately got busy making a big dinner for all of us.  We stayed at Timbers Kiawah, which is always heavenly.  All of the Timbers properties are fabulous.  I made Giada DeLaurentis’s sausage and ricotta with broccoli baked pasta.

Cooking in that big kitchen while sipping on some Quilt Cabernet was glorious.

My dad and Alison arrived about an hour after me, which was perfect timing.  After dinner we headed to the hot tub for a quick and soak and then headed back up to the room to watch episodes of “Frasier.”  I mean, seriously wild night.  I wouldn’t have changed a thing!  The weekend was all about relaxing and spending time together.  Back in the day, when Dad was a pilot for Delta and Alison and I were single and childless, these trips happened more regularly.  But it’s been ages since we’ve done something like this!

Saturday morning we went for a run on the beach and got some work done (Alison and me) while Dad read the paper.

We hopped in my car and headed to the Ocean Course for cocktails at Ryder Cup Bar.  Dad had never been to Kiawah, so the drive to the course was a good excuse for a little tour of the island.  The clubhouse at the Ocean Course is beautiful.  Even more stunning was the sunset we witnessed!

We headed to The Sanctuary for dinner from the Ocean Course.  The Sanctuary is one of my favorite hotels.  Alison had been before, but Dad was wowed.  We ate at the Atlantic Room and all agree that the food and service were top notch.

Sunday morning was spent walking on the beach and getting a bit more work done before heading back to Greenville and Atlanta.  I think little father/daughter trips are about to become more frequent!  It’s so hard for my sister and me to get away.  Kids and husbands and their schedules always come first, but we made it happen and loved every second.  That being said, it sure is nice to come home to my babies!

This made me laugh….Alison and I apparently have a bit of a Barrington Gifts obsession.  Our luggage game is strong!  http://www.barringtongifts.com
