My family and I spent our annual week in Grand Haven (hubby’s hometown) over the Fourth. Our visit was just as spectacular as all of the others. Grand Haven is such a charming little town and my in-laws make sure everyone has a fabulous time. Emery and Bodie love spending the week with their cousins (mostly unplugged!) and the break from the South Carolina heat is nice. All in all, we loved our time in the mitten.
The number one item on my agenda is always “run.” The cooler temperatures and gorgeous scenery along Lake Michigan and downtown make for the best runs of the year for me!

Emery and Bodie want to spend every waking moment at the cottage property (the cottage no longer exists, but it will forever be called “the cottage property”). Bodie fishes for hours while Emery cruises around in the go cart and golf cart, blasting Taylor Swift. I usually bring a book and read. It’s so peaceful and relaxing.

Nights in Grand Haven look like this: the famous musical fountain, bonfires on the beach, Pronto Pups (IYKYK) and a little ice cold night swimming.

We spent the actual Fourth of July on the boat. Every year we cruise up to a fun spot on Lake Michigan where we drop anchor and the kids take the dinghy to shore for sand dune fun. When not racing down the dunes, they enjoy beating each other up on the air track. The adults get in on this action, too. We also eat like royalty. My MIL always creates the best boat snacks. Our lunch of Sloppy Joe’s was a hit, too.

This pistachio bowl is genius. My MIL found it on Amazon. Linked here: https://amzn.to/3O5GgKv

My Three Sons…the reason for the name of the boat.
Emery and Alexa hung their shingle at the marina one afternoon and earned some money with their fairy hair skills.

My in-laws still have the same Slick Craft they bought in their pre children days. It’s called The Berries and it’s in perfect working order. We always take The Berries out on Spring Lake (much smaller, warmer and calmer than Lake Michigan) for a day of tubing and skiing. This is one of my favorite days each summer as I love looking at all the houses along the shore. I didn’t get any pictures of the kids on the tube, but I did manage to snap a pic of Emery on skis. These babies are VINTAGE! I think they belonged to Ben’s older brother when he was a kid. But hey, they work. Emery and Austin had no problem popping right up and skiing in and out of the wake.

The family looks forward to this week every year. We rarely go to Grand Haven when it’s not summer, so it will likely be another year before we’re back in this delightful little town.
Thanks for showing us such a great time, Grand Haven!
