A designer I am not, but I’ve learned a thing or two about color pairings over the last decade that I’ve been embellishing your items with monograms. However, a recent Stanley Cabana striped cup gave me fits! First of all, have you seen these new Stanleys? I need another tumbler like I need a money shovel, but oh how the green stripes and pink logo speak to me. But I digress.
A super stylish friend recently dropped off a pink and cream striped cup. The logo is a peachy/coral. It’s adorable. Apparently I typically add vinyl to bright colors, because this cream and muted pink combo was tricky. My usual go-to’s of aqua, lime and fuchsia just didn’t work. In the end, I couldn’t decide. I simply cut five monograms and let my friend decide. At this time, I still do not know where she landed.
I put a poll on Instagram and was a bit surprised by the results, so I’d love to know: which would you choose? Leave a comment below. I should add that I asked every member of my family and the results were all over the place with no winner. Not helpful.
When I first saw the cup I immediately thought of the famous Beverly Hills Hotel. That’s the vibe I wanted, so I cut a green monogram. I will say that this is my favorite. I LOVE pink and green together. I do think my green could have been a bit more “jade,” but this worked, in my humble opinion. Emery and my mom also liked green the best.

Next, I thought a sunny yellow would look very summery. However, the yellow needed to be a bit on the mustard side to work with the shades of pink and cream. This was my sister’s clear favorite, FWIW.

Navy is always a classic combo with stripes, and I must admit that this combo worked well. My dad and Bodie chose this as the winner, hands down. Bodie didn’t think the others should even be considered. He was adamant.

After playing around with these three colors and looking back at the Beverly Hills Hotel photo, I decided to give teal a try. I liked this one, too!

I will update you all when my friend chooses a color, but I’d love for you to weigh in with your thoughts in the comments. The suspense is killing me!
UPDATE: She chose GREEN!
