Spring/Summer Wardrobe Basics Part 2

With spring break being next week, I figure it’s high time I wrap up my wardrobe wish list for spring and summer. Yesterday’s post was all things dressy. Today’s post focuses on the basics one needs for day to day life during the warmer months, including swimsuits. In fact, I think I’ll start with swimsuits. I always like to get the least pleasant task out of the way first.

Summersalt makes the most flattering suits: they have excellent coverage and are made of thick material that doesn’t highlight imperfections like many other brands. I have a few that have stood up to washing and wearing in all conditions: salt water, lake water, pools, hot tubs, etc. They don’t fade or lose their elasticity. I’d like to add The Ruched Backflip in Sea Urchin and The Sidestroke in White Sand to my arsenal this summer. Shop them here: https://www.summersalt.com/products/the-ruched-backflip-sea-urchin and here: https://www.summersalt.com/products/sidestroke-white-sand

Quantities are low at the moment, sadly. I’m hoping they restock soon.

If you’re shopping for bathing suits, you probably need a few coverups as well. I love items that perform double duty: can work as a coverup, but also worn as actual clothes as well. A short, white linen sleeveless dress with pockets? Ideal. This is definitely on its way to my house. Get yours here: https://www.quince.com/women/linen-sleeveless-dress?color=white

A maxi skirt is also a great coverup option, especially when wearing a one piece. I feel like you can toss this on with a one piece and eat at beach or poolside cafe and still look presentable. Cotton is a wonderful fabric for summer. I love this white poplin Quince skirt. Shop here: https://www.quince.com/women/100-organic-cotton-tiered-maxi-skirt

I think smocked dresses are very flattering, not to mention comfortable. Since linen is the GOAT of summer fabrics, this black dress checks all the boxes. Snag one for yourself using this link: https://www.quince.com/women/100-european-linen-smocked-midi-dress?color=black

Another perfect summer dress from Quince is this cotton gauze tiered maxi. I think the white makes most sense for my attempt at a capsule wardrobe, but they’re all really pretty. The cherry is too cute for the Fourth! Imagine how lightweight and comfortable this will be on even the hottest days. For the record, I do not care for the shoes in many of the Quince photos. But do you know what I think would look cute with these looks? Big buckle Madrid Birkenstocks. Nordstrom has a great selection and I honestly cannot choose a favorite. Ecru? Sandcastle? Cognac? Black? Lots of options here: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/birkenstock-madrid-big-buckle-slide-sandal-women/5759526. Birkenstocks are the ultimate in comfort, so these make excellent shoes for travel as well.

We’re off to a wintry destination for spring break, but these dresses and sandals will be on repeat when we get back!
