I’ve been meaning to try this trend all summer, but only just now got around to it. A friend’s housewarming party was the perfect occasion to whip up a batch of Spicy Sauvy B (Sauvignon Blanc with sliced jalapenos). I read about this back in May and immediately saved the recipe (although it’s not really a recipe). I typically drink red wine, but hot summer nights have me reaching for chilled white wines on occasion.

Here’s the initial article that grabbed my attention: https://www.today.com/food/trends/jalapeno-wine-spicy-sauvignon-blanc-tiktok-trend-rcna207925

TikTok has recently proclaimed the hot new drink for summer, and this time, it’s literally hot: a glass of sauvignon blanc with jalapeño.

Although one of the first examples on social media seems to show a single slice of pickled jalapeño, most of the taste tests involve a few fresh slices, frozen to help with a bit of chill. I haven’t seen a single reviewer who didn’t like it.

My MIL gave me a super fun pink Yeti pitcher for my birthday, which was perfect for carrying this concoction to my friend’s party. I simply sliced four large jalapenos and placed the slices in the freezer for about an hour. Just before leaving for the party, I poured two bottles of chilled Oyster Bay Suavignon Blanc into the Yeti and then added the frozen pepper slices. Simple as that! As the evening wore on, the mixture got a bit spicier, but it was never brutally hot. Just delicious.

Sauvignon Blanc has an aromatic compound called pyrazines that can give it these bell pepper characteristics. The jalapeno enhances these notes. I’ll be making pitchers of Spicy Sauvy B the next several weekends for Labor Day and football parties. It’s still hot as blazes down here! An insulated pitcher was key to keeping the wine nice and cold. Shop my 64 oz Yeti here: https://amzn.to/3HKUlNc
