Every year during the holidays, one of my husband’s suppliers gifts him an enormous box of Georgia pecans. They’re delicious on their own, but my favorite way to enjoy them is this spicy and sweet concoction from Cooking with Carlee (https://cookingwithcarlee.com/southern-spiced-pecans/).
I always double the recipe and set out in pretty bowls for happy hour. They pair beautifully with wine and beer…or anything.
Southern Spiced Pecans

Ingredients
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups pecan halves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300°F.
- In a small bowl, stir together the spices and set aside.½ teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon chili powder, ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- Melt butter over medium heat in your largest oven safe skillet.¼ cup butter
- Add the sugar and salt. Continue to cook and stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved in the butter. 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon salt
- Remove from heat. Add the pecans and stir until the nuts are all coated in the butter mixture. Sprinkles with seasonings and stir again to coat evenly.3 cups pecan halves
- Bake for 15 minutes. Stir then return to the oven to bake for another 10 minutes.
- Allow to cool completely before moving to an airtight container for storage.
- Store at room temperature for up to two weeks.
The combination of flavors is superb. I love that these can be made ahead of time so you always have some on hand for holiday get togethers or as a hostess gift. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
