Emery’s cotillion season wrapped Sunday evening with the much anticipated formal Spring Ball. Cotillion was challenging this year due to Covid, but wasn’t everything? How are kids supposed to learn basic ballroom dances and how to go through a receiving line when they’re to remain six feet apart???? That said, the National League of Junior Cotillions Thornblade Chapter did an excellent job of teaching these kids some basic etiquette skills while remaining safe.
I participated in the Dogwood Cotillion program (East Cobb Chapter) in Atlantain middle school. I am thrilled Greenville also has programs for students. Manners and social skills are vital! In this virtual age, proper face to face interaction is more important than ever.
We were fortunate to have amazing weather Sunday evening, which made for wonderful photo opportunities. The sun was shining and the temps were warm. Couldn’t ask for more! Emery and her ride or die bestie enjoyed getting ready together. These girls have been inseparable since they were babies. Although they attend different schools, I am extremely grateful they are in the same cotillion program.
Don’t these girls look so elegant???
Clearly we still have some work to do…I’m fairly certain Emery did not learn these moves from her cotillion instructor.
Proud of this girl!
Here’s a look back at where we started with Emery and bestie at their very first class in September:
Classes are typically held one evening per month, with December and March being balls. December is the Holly Ball and is not quite as formal as the Spring Ball, but definitely dressier than the regular instruction nights. Here is a photo from the Holly Ball:
Emery is already registered for seventh grade cotillion, which focuses on table manners (Praise Jesus!) and includes a formal, sit down dinner.
I strongly encourage you to look into local NLJC chapters in your area if you have a middle school student. If one doesn’t exist, start one! These skills will last a lifetime.
