The hubs spent the weekend in Braselton, GA, zooming around the track at Road Atlanta. I’m not 100% certain of the logistics, but I believe this event was sponsored by The Porsche Club of America. Hubby was assigned an instructor and got to log quite a few hours of track time Saturday, learning the nuances of the road course. Our good friend and next door neighbor is super involved with these amateur track events and also attended this event. So, on Sunday, my neighbor and I loaded up the kids and drove down to Georgia to watch our hubbies drive. As a bonus, we got to pay $20 and do a ride along charity lap. The charity chosen for this particular event is the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. Needless to say, spectators and drivers were more than willing to open their wallets for donations. I love that we were able to contribute to such a worthy cause while doing something so fun and unique.
Hubs was assigned #17 and used painters tape to create his number. If this becomes a regular thing, he’s going to have to get actual decals for his car. I enjoyed teasing him about his fancy graphics. But hey, whatever works! Our neighbor buddy is #24. So many cool cars to watch. The little boys in our group were in heaven.
Emery just adores her daddy.
The weather was hot and muggy, which felt magnified because we were setup on a blacktop during our downtime. The kids were troopers, though, as long as we kept the snacks and drinks flowing. Thankfully, the daddies planned ahead and packed a tent for shade. My kids brought Ipads, checkers and coloring supplies to keep them occupied in between track times. In an effort to keep their cars performing at their maximum level, the drivers do not the AC in their cars. Needless to say, the guys were HOT when they came off the track.
All in all, this was a really fun day and unlike anything we’ve ever done before. Road Atlanta is family friendly and the course is first class. It’s 2.54 miles with twelve turns. Hubby maxed out at over 130 mph. Although this sounds scary (at least to me), the instructors are conservative in their approach to racing and safety is the top priority. After all, this is just for fun!
