This is definitely the weirdest blog post I’ve ever written, but I’ve exhausted all of my options. Buckle up, buttercups, because this is a strange story.
On the morning of July 1st I entered my mud room and noticed a piece of art propped against the counter along the back wall. It’s a detailed print of a succulent and it’s quite large. Framed. I’d just returned from Italy, so I’m not entirely sure when this painting appeared, but I guess it was sometime while I was out of town. I am in the mudroom multiple times per day, so I am certain the canvas was not there prior to my Rome trip. Here’s the painting:

The back of the canvas simply says “Mexico.” I do not see an artist’s name, but I believe it’s a reproduction. Here’s the odd part: nobody in my household has any idea where the painting came from or even when exactly it arrived. I asked everyone I can think of (friends, family, cleaner, previous homeowners and neighbors) but no one seems to have dropped it off. Nor does anyone seem to be missing this piece of art.
The colors work well with my house, so I added the canvas to the gallery on my back staircase. Several weeks passed and I, again, asked my family if they’re ever planning to tell me where the succulent painting originated. Once again, blank stares. I’m beginning to think that they truly do not know. Emery remarked, “you shouldn’t have it hanging in the house. It’s probably got a camera hidden in it.” It’s no longer hanging on my back staircase because that comment terrified me.
Someone knows something! I do not think I am the intended recipient of this painting and I’d like to get it in the hands of its rightful owner. But I am begging for information because I just cannot fathom that someone walked into my house and into the mudroom with a large painting and nobody noticed. What the heck were the dogs doing at this time??? Probably this:

I’ve exhausted all possibilities. And because I know we’ll be asked, our cameras did not show the mudroom or the entrance closest to the mudroom. We have since added another camera.
Please help! Spread the word because I need to know that this is a funny accident and not something creepy. All theories welcome!
