Perfect Labor Day Weekend

The long holiday weekend was just what I needed: the perfect mix of activity and relaxation. I kicked things off by heading down to Atlanta Friday for my dad’s 75th birthday celebration. He never wants to be the center of attention or have a big fuss made over his birthday, so he asked for a big family dinner at home. My mom prepared his favorite, beef stroganoff, and my Aunt Donna made a delicious German chocolate cake. I got to see my sister and her family as well, which is always fun. I wish we lived closer! We ate, drank good wine, and played rummikub well into the night. It was the best evening! Happy birthday, Dad!

Dad’s Birthday

I raced home Saturday morning to attend day one of Bodie’s golf tournament. This is becoming a regular occurrence and I am here for it, especially when the tournament is held in our own neighborhood. Bodie played with a great group of buddies and did really well. He placed third overall and won $20 to spend at the pro shop. His first winnings! Most importantly, he had a wonderful experience. The other competitors and their parents were all very supportive, encouraging and good sports.

We spent the remainder of Saturday watching football while eagerly awaiting the Notre Dame game! WHEW! I forgot how emotionally draining these games are. What a fun win for the Irish!

While Bodie, Ben and I watched golf, football, tennis and baseball, Emery was working. Well, not the entire time. She has her share of fun, but I am really proud of her work ethic. Emery got a job at Sub Station II (legendary here in the Carolinas) last month and has diligently tackled 2-3 shifts per week. As she nears being able to get her drivers license, she knows she has to contribute to the costs of owning a car. Between insurance, gas and the car itself, we are in for an expensive few years.

I had just a few orders to knock out on Labor Day, but the rest of the day was spent playing tennis and swimming with friends. The weather was hot and sunny…the best way to shut down the pool for the season. Usually our pool stays open until October, but a massive renovation necessitates that it closes sooner. We are bummed, but know that this will be worth it.

Bodie’s annual Fantasty Football draft was held at our house last night. I can’t even remember how many years he’s been doing this with many of the same fellas. Gosh, I love having a house full of friends. I’m not totally sold on some of Bodie’s picks, but he is excited. We’re ready for Thursday!

Fantasy Draft

Summer, you were incredible but I am thrilled to be in the Ber months. I love Halloween, Thanksgiving, football and, of course, Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, how cute are these jewelry boxes I did for a friend to give away at a jewelry show. AHHHHH!!!!

Merry & Bright

I hope you have a great short week!
