Good morning and happy Friday! This weekend should be fabulous: a football game for Bodie, soccer game for Emery, dinner out with friends and church. What more could I ask for?
I’ve been the proud owner of a Peloton Tread (not the Tread +) for about six weeks now and I feel like I can give an accurate review. Spoiler alert: I love it even more than I anticipated.
Peloton Tread

I need to backtrack a bit here…I initially ordered an Echelon Stride treadmill back in December. My sister has an Echelon bike and really likes it. She also enjoys the app for strength training, boot camp, stretching, running and walking classes. I knew I didn’t want a bike because I love my spin class at the Y. I felt strongly that a treadmill would fit my needs better. Since Echelon products are slightly more affordable than Peloton, I decided to go for it.
When I ordered the Echelon treadmill, I was given the impression that I would have it within two weeks. With Christmas and traveling, I wasn’t too concerned about getting the treadmill until January. However, January rolled around and I still didn’t have any shipping information. I checked my order and learned that it had been pushed back until mid-February. That was not an option. I canceled my order and pulled the trigger on the Peloton. My Peloton was delivered five days later and I have no regrets.
Unfortunately, the person I communicated with at Echelon (don’t bother calling….they never answer and will never call you back. Everything must be done via email) failed to actually cancel my order. When I hadn’t received a refund I started digging around and found out that my tread order couldn’t be canceled. I would have to refuse delivery and then wait for it to get back to the warehouse and then processed before I could get my refund. I had a very large charge on my credit card for almost eight weeks. NOT HAPPY. I only received my refund a few days ago. Needless to say, I will never deal with Echelon again. Consider yourself warned. I think they used to be a wonderful company, but clearly that is no longer the case.
Back to the Peloton Tread…What makes the Peloton Tread different from other treadmills is probably the screen, the community, and all the classes. Peloton is really all about the classes. It’s a great treadmill but I don’t think it’s any more special or fancy than the commercial treadmills at most gyms. However, the classes are so great that hopping on the treadmill never feels like a chore. I genuinely look forward to it every day! I have loved every instructor and class I’ve taken thus far, but a few jump out at me. Susie Chan, Jermaine Johnson and Kirsten Ferguson are some of my go-to instructors. I did a Disney walk class a few weeks ago that was fabulous, but I’m blanking on the name of the instructor. However, he was super fun and sprinkled all sorts of Disney trivia into the class.
Peloton Class

Peloton offers a wide range of on-demand and live classes, and they’re all fabulous. The instructors are motivating and knowledgeable and the variety of classes keeps things interesting. Whether you’re in the mood for a 45-minute interval run or a 10-minute recovery jog, Peloton has you covered. I’m trying to incorporate more weights into my workouts. The classes don’t require much equipment and keep me on track.
I really like the class variety. If I want to challenge myself I will do a run, or a 45 minute walk/run… if I’m having an off day I will do a beginner run or even just a walk (some of the walks are HARD!). I enjoy all of the stats the Tread tracks. I’m numbers driven and nothing makes me happier than a PR workout.

The screen is large and crystal clear. The speakers provide excellent sound and you can adjust if you want more music or more instructor. The knobs for adjusting speed and incline are right at hip level and incredibly user friendly. The incline goes up to 12%, which is a great booty blaster. The only drawbacks I can think of are the price (it’s an investment, although not significantly more than other treadmills of this caliber) and the size. Fortunately, I have an area in our basement that works for the Peloton, but I can see how the size would give some potential buyers pause. For reference, the dimensions are as follows:
- 5½′ x 2¾′ footprint
- 59″ running belt
- 23.8″ HD touchscreen
I encourage you to visit the Peloton site to learn more if you’re considering adding a treadmill to your home gym (https://www.onepeloton.com/). They occasionally have sales, so you may want to wait for that. Overall, the benefits exceeded my expectations. Starting my morning with a workout sets the tone for a productive and happy day. No excuses when the equipment is in your house. I am down a few pounds, which needed to happen after the holidays. I miss my Tread when I’m out of town!
