One of my goals this summer, besides reading more, is to play more Mahjong! I made a New Year’s resolution to learn how to play and, by golly, I did. I started strong and played quite a bit at the beginning of the year, but then spring craziness hit and my groups fell off the wagon. But we are back! And I’ve learned a few tricks recently.
The most exciting takeaway from my recent Mahj sessions is an adorable score keeping method. We do not play for money; we simply keep a tally of each game’s winner. But now we have a visual to go along with this nonchalant approach to scorekeeping: flamingos (or sharks, if you’re me). The winner of each game gets a mini resin flamingo to place on her rack.

If flamingos are not your thing, plenty of other mini resin animals are available on Amazon. The sets are big enough to split with your friends. I gifted three of my Mahj friends these with a little Mackenzie Childs dish and was able to use one bag of birds for the three of them, with plenty to spare.
