After being in kid and puppy mode for ages, I finally have an adult family room! Our living room is open to our kitchen and well loved/abused. For years I’ve had a giant Pottery Barn sectional and an Ikea coffee table as the only furniture in that room and they’d definitely seen better days. No rug because Gippere destroyed my nice rug as a puppy. It was passable, but certainly not anything I was proud to showcase. If I’m being perfectly honest, I stopped caring about two years ago about the furniture because it was well past the point of rescue. I met with a decorator (more on that in a minute) about a year ago and we ordered all sorts of fabulous stuff for my “grown up family room,” only to have everything delayed….and delayed some more…and then even more. However, all of my new stuff was delivered last week and it was well worth the wait!
I don’t really have photos of the old layout for you, but here is my new stuff in all its glory!
New Family Room

As you can see, we went heavy on the blues, greens and oranges in this room. My husband said, “no more pink!” Of course I sneaked a few pops of pink on the ottoman tray and window seat piping, but he hasn’t admonished me yet.
I knew I wanted an animal print rug and this brown antelope is very family friendly. So far, so good. It’s custom cut so it fits the space perfectly.
For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the aqua paint color, but the darker blue is Farrow and Ball “Drawing Room Navy.”
The designer who created this happy room is Frances Kinloch Still of Kinloch Interiors. She’s not only brilliant, but super fun. Find her online at http://www.kinlochinteriors.com and on Instagram at @kinlochinteriors. I think Emery may be getting a bedroom refresh as she enters her teen years, and Frances will definitely be at the helm.
One aspect of this project that was surprisingly affordable and an easy DIY is the cabinet pulls. I found them on Amazon and installed them myself. Well, Ben installed the family room pulls, but I did the rest. I’ve actually used Amazon cabinet hardware throughout most of my house and I truly cannot tell the difference between the inexpensive Amazon stuff vs. the pricier designer brands. I have this same style but with chrome in Emery’s bathroom, but it’s such a mess today that I didn’t photograph. But trust me, they’re just as fabulous.
Alrighty folks, that’s all I’ve got for now. I am SO happy to finally have a polished family room. If you’re in the Greenville area, give her a call!
