Little Things that Bring Joy

Since November 2022 I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal. It’s nothing extravagant. Every evening I jot down three things that made me happy that day. I’ve learned that no event is too small to be included on the list. In fact, the less significant, the better. I feel as though I’ve improved my mindset by finding joy in something as simple as the receipt printing at the gas pump.

I thought I’d share a few things that have made me happy recently. This is very random, but snippets of my journal. Also, I highly recommend a gratitude journal.

First on the list: sparkling silver. Ben took the kids skiing for a few days and I had time alone to tackle chores that are always on the list, but never at the top. I know you know what I’m talking about. I purchased a bottle of Tarnex at Publix (it’s sometimes hard to find; Wal-Mart didn’t have it) and got busy. It took me less than an hour to polish all of my silver. Seeing all of my shiny trays and platters while spending time in the kitchen really brightens my day.

Polished Silver

Tarnex is definitely the easiest polish to work with. If you don’t want to run the risk of your local store not having it in stock, it’s available on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3O7Wkvc

I treat myself to fresh flowers regularly during the summer when Gladiolus are readily available, but I fall off the wagon during winter. Publix has actually had some winter peonies lately, but the price is super high. It’s been so cold here lately that I needed something to brighten up my space. I snagged a few lilies, mums, and fillers from Publix the other day and love the result. Treat yourself!

I purchased a Peloton Tread after a disastrous experience with my Echelon order. Consider yourself warned. Peloton may cost more, but I received my product within a week. Echelon kept pushing my delivery date back weeks at a time. I finally canceled my order and started drinking the Peloton Kool Aid. I LOVE IT. Even more than I thought I would. The classes and instructors are fabulous. I love that I can just trot down to the basement and get a killer workout in half an hour. I’m ashslags if anyone wants to join me. Jermaine’s HIIT run is my favorite so far.

Ben purchased lemon and lime trees over a year ago. He’s babied them for months and is finally seeing the literal fruits of his labor. The lime tree produced a few limes this winter, but the lemon tree is the real shining star. It’s taking over our kitchen! I need temps to warm up so these guys can go back outside. Thankfully, the ten day forecast is showing some 60’s for Greenville next week! The secret to his success: putting coffee grounds in the soil.

Last Christmas Emery asked for a Dyson Airwrap. My parents purchased one for her and she barely uses it. Girlfriend goes to bed with wet hair and then throws it up in a messy bun every morning. It’s a source of contention. And don’t even get me started on the 24/7 athleisure wear….but I digress.

Tired of watching her expensive hair equipment gather dust, I decided to learn how to use it myself. Why didn’t I do this sooner!?!?! I love it! Getting the hang of it definitely took a few tries, but now I am a pro and having more good hair days than usual. Nothing else creates volume like the Airwrap.

Dyson Airwrap

I didn’t understand the hype when this was first released several years ago, but now I am a big fan. Dyson products are expensive, but at least Emery and I can share it. Side note: she is annoyed that I took it and is suddenly wanting to use it again. Available here if you’re ready to splurge on your hair: https://amzn.to/3tXZUkC

Emery’s fella gave her the cutest light pink Birkenstock clogs for Christmas (Boston suede in light rose). Sadly, Emery and I do not wear the same size, so I couldn’t borrow these adorable shoes. Resigned to buying my own pair, I stumbled across a bright pink shearling version. Knowing Emery would be mortified if I bought the exact same pair of shoes, I went with the fuchsia tulip option and never looked back.

These have been delightful during this cold snap: warm, cute, cozy and comfortable. They’re on sale! Paired with Ugg socks, which are my new favorite possession. I never knew I cared so much about socks, but this is 44. The reviews are fabulous. Add to cart here: https://amzn.to/48G6dIx

That’s enough rambling for one day. I hope you have an incredible weekend. I am heading to Kiawah to visit with a college friend.
