Hosting Korn Ferry Pro Golfers for BMW Pro Am

If you’re not from Greenville, you are likely not familiar with the BMW Celebrity Pro Am Golf Tournament. It’s held at our club every June as a stop on the Korn Ferry tour. Per usual, the tournament runs from Thursday-Sunday and is BUSY. Aside from incredible golf, lots of concerts and parties take place those days as well.

This year was extra special because my family hosted two golf pros for the week. We’d considered this for several years, but I worried that my house is too crazy with the pets and all of the visitors that pop in during that week. However, we met a pro last year who assured us our house would be fine. Several of my friends and neighbors host each year and they rave about the experience. Spoiler: they were right.

Our guests were Ricardo Celia (Colombia) and Jorge Garcia (Venezuela). They’re tour buddies, which made for even more fun. They are quite possibly the most delightful house guests in history. Polite, respectful, gracious and always up for a good time. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners with them each evening (a mix of takeout, cooking and going out…the guys aren’t picky). They were extra kind to Bodie and his friends, who swarmed them all week both on and off the course. Gipper and Knute were also smitten with the fellas, who were extremely tolerant of the fur babies.

Jorge’s dad came into town just as official play began (he didn’t stay with us) and joined us for several meals. He’s every bit as precious as his son and we loved getting to know him as well. The cherry on top of the week? Jorge Sr. came over Sunday morning to make us (including a few of Bodie’s buddies) an authentic Venezuelan breakfast: arepas. They were delicious!

Emery babysat quite a bit during the tournament and was unable to attend every day, but Bodie and his buddies were there from sun up to sun down every single day. They loved following our pros and also trying to meet some of their favorite golf content creators, namely Grant Horvat and Phoebe Carles. Mission accomplished!

We’re already excited for next year’s tournament and will gladly host again.
