Hidden Gem in Greenville

Several weeks ago I was with friends and the conversation somehow turned to bagels. My lovely friend, who is a transplant from New Jersey, shared that Jersey Bagel Brothers is the home to the best bagel in Greenville. I filed that information away and told myself I would stop in the next time I was in the area. Not going to lie, the shop itself is completely unremarkable. It’s in the run down Lake Forest shopping center on a stretch of Pleasantburg Drive I seldom visit. If I do happen to drive past, it’s never in the morning. Well, that all changed last week when Bodie participated in a basketball camp at Furman University. We drove past the bagel shop every morning on our way to drop off. I finally took the opportunity to darken their doorway.

Jersey Bagel Brothers

I ordered the everything bagel with schmear, Emery got the French toast bagel with schmear, and Bodie opted for the bacon, egg and cheese on a plain bagel with butter. Everything was delicious! My friend is correct. This beats any of the other chain bagel shops we have in Greenville and it DEFINITELY tastes better than anything you can get in a grocery store.

Bagels

I learned while in the bagel shop that you should never toast a fresh bagel. Save the toasting for when you’re trying to revive a day old bagel.

If you’re local, pay them a visit! I think ordering a big batch ahead of time for Thanksgiving or Christmas (or the next time you host company) is a great idea. They do not have a web site, but you can find them on Facebook where they post all of the holiday specials.

Enjoy!
