I’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending my first week as a forty year old watching Shark Week on Discovery Channel.  It’s always my favorite week of the year.  I usually host a viewing party, but I just couldn’t get my ducks in a row this summer and settled for putting out some of my decor and watching with my family every night.  We usually have it playing all day, too!  I’ve been obsessed with sharks since I was little and my kids, especially Bodie, have inherited my love of all things sharky.IMG_9291Not only is this shark bowl super fun, it was also a gift from my dear friend and neighbor who moved across the country last year.  I love having a little memento sitting out to remind me of her and her hilarious kids.  We miss them so much.IMG_9295IMG_9297I hope Vineyard Vines continues to release Shark Week shirts every summer.  IMG_9299The same friend who gave me the shark bowl also made me this table runner for one of my Shark Week parties several years ago.  It is such a fun touch of whimsy.

Besides watching SW, my kids have also been attending candy making camp in the mornings at Christ Church Episcopal School.  They brought home cute little recipe books in addition to all of their goodies.  They made chocolate covered pretzel rods, rice krispies sushi, cherry mice, chocolate wiener dogs, buckeyes, marshmallows, etc.  They’ve been inspired to recreate some of the concoctions at home.  IMG_9229IMG_9232One of the families in our neighborhood is of Korean descent and they own several restaurants in town.  They are tons of fun and their children are the same ages as Emery and Bodie.  We all love hanging out with them.  This family is also extremely generous and the dad is always dropping off delicious Korean delicacies for us to enjoy.  As a result, I’ve discovered I am a huge fan of spicy kimchi.  Koreans tend to eat it with rice, but I served mine with leftover egg noodles since that’s what I had on hand.  I can’t stop thinking about it.  And it’s healthy!  What!?!?!?  Too good to be true.  I have enough kimchi and noodles left for my dinner tonight and I’m already excited to eat it.58630816709__0A02B1FE-0D19-4B12-ADE4-FC3D106370BE.fullsizerenderI always get super antsy right before school begins and start cleaning out closets and trying to get organized.  For some reason, cleaning and purging tend to result in fluffing the house.  I do the same thing every January when all of the Christmas decorations come down.  The past few days I’ve polished all of the silver and gussied up my coffee station.  I also had the incomparable Mayme Baker come out and accessorize my butler’s pantry.  I can’t get enough of the pops of emerald green with the black and white.

IMG_9339I apologize for the bad picture.  It’s impossible to not get a glare from the lights on the glossy black countertop and cabinets, but it’s too dark to photograph without turning on the lights.

I’ll leave you with this for a little Friday chuckle:IMG_9256

Have a great weekend!
