Fall break and life lately

Long time, no blog!  I’ve been a busy bee lately….all good stuff, but I feel like my head is spinning.  Why does everything have to happen within the same two week span?  Between fall break, student conferences, party planning, PTA events, JLG events and a major milestone celebration for my husband’s company I have way too many balls in the air.

The highlight of Emery’s fall break was a trip to the mall with her bestie H.  H’s always entertaining little sister P tagged along.  Their mother is one of my favorite people on the planet, so I was excited to get to catch up with her.  Our kids attend different schools and are in different activities, so a night out with this lady is a rare treat.

Emery and H both had gift cards to Justice burning holes in their pockets.  Of course I ended up spending way more than her gift cards covered, but she got a lot of cute things and a super fun pair of boots.  P is really into pandas at the moment and was thrilled with these panda ear muffs.  She is such a spunky little thing!  Full of sass.

D and I treated ourselves to a few adult beverages at The Cheesecake Factory during our shopping intermission.  We also ate dinner and fed the kids there.  The Cheesecake Factory is always a crowd pleaser because the menu is enormous.  Even picky eaters can find something.  As for the drinks, I stuck with my usual Pinot Noir.  D ordered a Georgia Peach.  I was amazed by the fact that the drink looked exactly like an actual peach!  Very yummy.

I hosted a party for the Sustainers in The Junior League last week.  The theme was “fall tailgate,” so the party was very relaxed and casual.  All I had to do was supply the house and the Sustainer Outreach committee handled everything else.  They brought all the decorations, food (Bucky’s barbeque), alcohol and decorations.  In addition to setting everything up and manning the bar, they also cleaned up and hauled away the trash.  I had so much fun!  Best party ever.  I told the committee chair that I will definitely host again next year.  Oh, and I got to keep all of the delicious leftovers.  We had enough trays of fruit, pork, cole slaw and sweet potato casserole remaining that I had another little party the following evening.  Three couples and their kiddos helped us finish everything while watching football.  It was a great impromptu gathering.  Even though I wasn’t required to provide anything for the JLG party, I couldn’t resist adding a little Notre Dame flair.  I guess the balloons brought us luck as we whooped up on Southern Cal Saturday evening.  I hadn’t enjoyed an Irish victory that major in quite some time.

We watched the first half of the game at a friend’s house.  I was lucky enough to become fast friends with the wife of a fellow domer.  They live just one street away and our kids all go to the same school.  Also, our hubbies play golf together.  They have a spectacular man cave in the basement, as you can see in the pictures.

We came home during the third quarter and my kids and hubby went to bed, leaving me to bask in my glory all alone.  I guess I’m kind of very obnoxious to watch Notre Dame football with.

Another bright spot of fall break was playing tourist in our own town last Thursday.  The kids and I enjoyed lunch at Tupelo Honey, did some shopping at Mast General Store, wandered around Falls Park and finished the afternoon with ice cream from Spill the Beans.  Our little city has so much to offer!

I’ll end this overdue post with a glance at the kids’ school pictures.  These came home in their folders yesterday and I’m in shock at how old they look!  Bodie is a full fledged boy (no more baby Peach!) and Emery is more like a teenager than a little girl these days.

Emery Catherine, age 8, third grade and Bodie James, age 5, kindergarten.
