In case you can’t tell, Team Slagel is very excited for football season. One of our favorite football foods is Ben’s All Day Ribs. He learned this recipe from a friend several years ago and has perfected it. Danny, you would be proud! All Day Ribs are surprisingly easy to prepare and are the perfect food for lazy football Saturdays and Sundays because you simply put them in the oven and leave them there all day. Hence the name. I usually serve with baked beans and macaroni and cheese.
Start off with two racks of baby back ribs and ask the butcher to remove the membrane. We usually get our ribs at Publix. I should note here that we’ve tried short ribs and St. Louis ribs when baby back ribs were not available and we do not enjoy them as much.
Place the ribs in a large metal baking dish and sprinkle evenly and generously with the spices pictured below: garlic powder, onion salt, white pepper, minced onion, garlic salt, black pepper and paprika.

Next, pour an entire beer in the bottom of the pan. Note: if this liquid evaporates during cooking, you will want to replace with a cup of water. This keeps the rib meat from becoming dry.

Cover tightly with foil and bake low and slow all day….these took about six hours at 250 degrees.

The final step in the process is to throw them on the grill with a coat of BBQ sauce (store bought….we usually use Sweet Baby Ray’s original) for a few minutes to get a little char. That’s it! I am not even a huge rib fan, but I love these. The meat falls off the bone and the flavor is unsurpassed. Ben even cooks these ribs on ski trips….tosses them in the oven in the morning, skis all day, checks on the ribs before a hot tub soak, and then dinner is ready after a long day on the slopes.
Speaking of football, Bodie participated in his first Fantasy Football draft Sunday. He’s in a league with a group of sweet friends and the draft party was incredible, although stressful. Bodie started prepping Saturday morning and kept his strategy top secret.

The research continued all day Sunday while I made some snacks to take over to the house where the draft took place. My dear friend, Casey, was kind enough to host these wild boys.

The boys were all very well prepared and, truthfully, did not ask the parents for much help. I think their teams are pretty evenly matched. It should be a great season….as long as everyone remembers to update their roster each week!
If this post got you in the mood for tailgates or football viewing parties, be sure to check out my favorite cheese boards, linked here: https://emerybodie-llc.myshopify.com/products/acacia-resin-cheeseboard
